Two perspectives on Research Data Management in CS

Abstract:
Der WebTalk startet mit einem Impulsvortrag in englischer Sprache von Prof. Dr. Roberto di Cosmo, INRIA, Director Software Heritage mit dem Titel „Towards software as a first-class citizen in the scholarly world with Software Heritage“.
Anschließend stellen die GI-Vizepräsidenten Ulrike Lucke und Michael Goedicke das frisch gegründete Konsortium „Nationale Forschungsdateninfrastruktur für und mit Computer Science“ (NFDIxCS) vor. Mit dem Projekt wird beabsichtigt, die FAIR Data Principles für Informatik-Forschungsdaten sowie Software-Artefakte umzusetzen, die Zitierbarkeit von Software und Informatik-Daten zu vereinfachen und damit die Pubikationsprozesse und -kultur sowohl in der Informatik als auch in ihren Anwendungen zu modernisieren. NFDIxCS soll ein Forum für die Diskussion über Formate von Informatik-Forschungsdaten, Metadatenformaten und Semantiken bieten und auf allgemein akzeptierte Standards, insbesondere für die nachhaltige Speicherung, das Auffinden und Zurverfügungstellen von Informatik-Forschungsdaten hinwirken.
Zum Vortrag „Towards software as a first-class citizen in the scholarly world with Software Heritage“: Software, and software source code in particular, is a fundamental pillar of modern scientific research, across all fields and disciplines: it may be used as a tool, it may be the result of a research work, and it may be an object of study. However, there is a general lack of adequate means to archive, reference cite, study and analyze software source code. Software Heritage is a non profit, multistakeholder initiative that is building the universal archive of software source code, a key infrastructure to address these pressing needs. After framing the main issues at stake, we will explore the functionalities already offered by Software Heritage, and report on recent contributions to the ongoing efforts to develop proper processes, guidelines and recommendations for archiving, referencing and citing software.

Kurzvita der Referent*innen
 | Prof. Dr. Roberto Di Como, IRINA An alumnus of the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa, with a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Pisa, Roberto Di Cosmo was associate professor for almost a decade at Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris. In 1999, he became a Computer Science full professor at University Paris Diderot, where he was head of doctoral studies for Computer Science from 2004 to 2009. A trustee of the IMDEA Software institute, and member of the national committee for Open Science in France, he is currently on leave at Inria. His research activity spans theoretical computing, functional programming, parallel and distributed programming, the semantics of programming languages, type systems, rewriting and linear logic, and, more recently, the new scientific problems posed by the general adoption of Free Software, with a particular focus on static analysis of large software collections. He has published over 20 international journals articles and 50 international conference articles. |
 | Prof. Dr. Ulrike Lucke, Universität Potsdam Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Ulrike Lucke hat seit 2010 den Lehrstuhl für Komplexe Multimediale Anwendsarchitekturen an der Universität Potsdam inne. Sie hat an der Universität Rostock Informatik studiert und in dem Fach promoviert und habilitiert. In der GI war sie von 2008 bis 2014 als Sprecherin der Fachgruppe E-Learning, seit 2014 als Mitglied des Präsidiums sowie seit 2015 im Präsidiumsarbeitskreis E-Science aktiv. Sie war von 2010 bis 2018 CIO der Universität Potsdam und ist stellvertretende Vorsitzende des Hochschul-CIO-Vereins. |
 | Prof. Dr. Michael Goedicke, Universität Duisburg-Essen Michael Goedicke leitet an der Universität Duisburg-Essen Professor die Arbeitsgruppe Spezifikation von Software-Systemen und ist Mitglied des Vorstands des Paluno - The Ruhr Institute for Software Technology. Er ist Fellow der Automated Software Engineering Conference (ASE) und Chair der Technical Assembly von IFIP und als Councilor Mitglied des Boards von IFIP. Goedicke studierte Informatik an der Universität Dortmund und schrieb dort seine Promotion 1985 über Spezifikationssprachen für eingebettete Systeme. 1993 erfolgte die Habilitation zum Thema Spezifikation von Softwarekomponenten. Goedicke ist seit 2006 in der GI im Fachbereich Softwaretechnik aktiv, darunter als Sprecher und stellvertretender Sprecher. Er ist seit 2012 Mitglied des Präsidiums und seit 2018 Vizepräsident der Gesellschaft für Informatik e.V. (GI). |
